Why do we judge?

Why do people judge others? Why do people find it necessary to judge others? Have we forgotten that we are all humans and should be treated as humans? I think some of us have indeed forgotten this important fact.

Let us think about this logically for a moment, starting with the most common judgement that some people make. The judgement based on race. Think about this one for a moment, and I mean really think about it. How dumb is it to judge someone based on skin color? Something they have no control over.

You have never met this person, and you see the color of his or her skin and you instantly have an impression of the kind of person they are. How is something like that even relevant to who they are? They didn't choose what their skin color was when they were born.

There are plenty of stereotypes that people judge others on unjustly. Appearance doesn't matter, what we know, what we are capable of, how we act, these are the things that matter.

Let us take a simple example real quick to prove a point. There might be a homeless man somewhere who knows the best construction tricks in the trade, only reason he might be homeless is because the company he worked for went under because of the economy. I can already hear the criticism on this comment, "If he was so great why didn't he get another job?" If people aren't hiring then they simply aren't hiring, it doesn't matter how good you are, to some companies that would even be bad because they know you would want more money.

After that person loses everything it becomes even more impossible to find something because he is homeless, a company will typically not hire someone who doesn't seem very reliable and someone without a home or way of transport wouldn't seem very reliable. From that point any preset skills he had wouldn't even matter to the company.

Another popular argument would be "they can't discriminate who they hire, it's illegal." Maybe not but I promise you that if they don't like you they will find even a very tiny reason on your job application or resume to turn you down.

So again, the question remains, why do we judge? There are a lot of good people that could of been the best of friends if they didn't judge each other. There could be a lot of amazing people working in a lot of different fields if they weren't judged for things outside their control. This world could be even more amazing, if we simply didn't judge others unjustly.
